The Canadian prospects for a better economic future and lower taxes are about to recieve a negative jolt! A combination of bad policy and the tendency to mistrust and control the provinces will see our taxes go up and our standard of living will go down.
The bad policy is the Kyoto Accord which has already put projects on hold and which will have the same effect on Alberta as the first National Energy Program (NEP) in the early 1980's. Talk about killing the goose that laid the golden egg! However, this time the NEP2 will also have a very negative effect on all the other provinces.
If this is not bad enough, the Alliance opposition and none of the provinces are digging in their heels and telling Ottawa to get off provincial turf when it comes to the environment, health care and now even urban infrastructure.
We have to realize that Ottawa's initiatives are duplicating the province's which can only mean one thing - more waste and higher federal taxes!
Do the provinces not have the confidence to do what has to be done or will they always be dominated by their interfering, power-hungry mother-in-law (Ottawa)?
