Republican Policy Reviews – Promoting Refrigerator Manufacturing Is Good For The Province
Calgary Republicans can be proud of our efforts to foster Alberta’s manufacturing industries. By promoting a business friendly operating environment we can draw ever mode manufacturers to our local towns and cities, and provide great jobs for you citizenry.
One type of business worth luring into the neighborhood are manufacturing jobs in factories. The production of home appliances is relatively labor intensive, and can create a large number of jobs if it is done locally.
The chief challenge we face in building Canada’s’ base of manufacturing jobs is competition from other countries where labor costs are much lower. Clearly we cannot compete with many of the South East Asian nations on labor costs alone.
To be competitive, we must provide a well trained work force that has the confidence and ability to take the initiative to help employers produce better quality products than they can easily do overseas. Let’s take refrigerators as an example.
China is producing a large range of fridge freezers and selling them under brands such as Haier. While cheap to buy, the refrigerator reviews for these products are generally rather poor. Alberta, in order to compete, needs to lure premium manufacturers to the area.
These companies will be willing to pay the extra for our higher labor costs if it means they are able to produce the high quality products their buyers are used too. When refrigerator reviews are positive, consumers will pay more for the products produced, so the firms can absorb the additional costs and still make a profit.
By offering a flexible and educated workforce, minimal government regulation, and cheap and plentiful land, Alberta can stake out a good sized portion of the world’s manufacturing base. As republicans we should do our best to promote policies that make us competitive in these areas. We need to be the party of the job creators.
