The Benefits of an Outdoor Fireplace
As anyone who lives there can tell you the quality of life that Alberta residents enjoy is a very good one. Personal taxes are lower, additional health benefits are readily available, the economy remains strong and the housing is attractive and relatively affordable.
One growing trend amongst Alberta homeowners is to add an outdoor fireplace to their backyard. An outdoor fireplace adds both warmth and elegance to any outdoor space and is great for entertaining.
Wood burning outdoor fireplaces are very popular but you do of course need somewhere to store the wood needed to keep a nice roaring fire in all night. Keeping a stack of logs loose on a deck or patio is neither very safe or very attractive. It is for that reason that most wood burning fireplace owners purchase a firewood storage rack.
Homeowners can find firewood storage racks in a number of different styles and sizes. many of this styles blend into the background very well, so their presence does not ruin the overall look of the space. They are relatively inexpensive to purchase and in addition to providing handy storage for firewood they also help keep that firewood in great shape.
What kind of wood you choose to store in your firewood storage rack will often be determined by the use you want to put your fireplace to. if it is to be used for warmth only any nice dry, well seasoned logs should work well. If on the other hand you want to cook over your fireplace the type of wood you use can affect the flavors of the food so you need to choose a little more carefully! Mesquite, cedar, peach, apple and cherry woods are all popular cooking wood choices. The fruit woods work best for fish, sweet dishes and poultry but if you are cooking red meats you really need a mesquite or cedar wood that can easily impart that nice strong, smoky flavor you are looking for.
